OnePlus has just announced a new limited edition of its latest flagship smartphone. OnePlus 11 was launched in two colors, Black and Green color. A third color option has been announced and is considered the best-looking of the three.
This new edition, called the Jupiter Rock, comes with a unique back panel that is designed to look like the surface of Jupiter, the largest planet in our Solar System.
According to OnePlus, the back panel is made of a material called “3D microcrystalline rock,” which has a fine sparkle that catches the light beautifully. The company says that each unit has a different pattern, making each phone unique.
However, what makes the Jupiter Rock edition stand out is not just its design but also the production process behind it. OnePlus says that it took over a year of research and development to develop the panel, and it goes through nine complex processes before it becomes a back panel on a OnePlus 11 smartphone. The company also says that production is so complicated that efficiency is just 25%, compared to the green glass panel, where yield is 50%.
OnePlus claims that the feeling of the new panel is “as cool and skin-friendly as the jade (stone) that has been under the spring water for thousands of years.” While Jupiter may be a gas planet, the design and material are based on a microlite rock, hence the name “Jupiter Rock.”
The OnePlus 11 Jupiter Rock is the same phone as the standard model on the inside, with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. It has the same price as the Black and Green variants at CNY 4,899 ($710/€655). Pre-orders for the Jupiter Rock edition are now live in China, with the first sale scheduled for April 3. However, since this is a limited edition, it’s unclear how many units will be available for purchase.
